PRISm
The Practitioner Research Idea Summit is a mentorship-led programme that brings practitioner educators into educational technology research, guiding them from a first idea to a published paper.
Research mentorship for educators who have never done EdTech research.
PRISm is a flagship initiative of the EdTech Society, supported by the Centre for Educational Technology (CET) at IIT Bombay.
It brings together learners from engineering, the liberal arts and school teaching who have no prior research experience in educational technology. Experienced mentors called Research Buddies guide them through interactive sessions, mentorship and collaborative learning, towards a peer-reviewed paper.
From first idea to submitted paper
The programme runs in two parts, one after the other: first you learn research methods, then you carry out your own study and write it up.
Learning research methods
Intensive sessions on the fundamentals of research in educational technology.
- Research foundations: paradigms, ethics and scholarly standards
- Study design: quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods
- Data collection and analysis: surveys, interviews, observation, coding
- Literature review: finding, reading and synthesising research
- Research Buddy sessions: guided discussion with mentors
Each module includes readings, reflective exercises and live doubt-solving sessions.
Conducting your study and writing the paper
You design and carry out a real study, ending in a conference or journal submission.
- Idea Planning Template: develop and refine your research question

- Peer review practice: give and receive feedback on drafts
- Submission support: formatting, submission portals and responding to reviewers
The goal is submission to a peer-reviewed venue. Many participants submit to T4E.

Teachers and practitioners new to research
Educators from engineering, the liberal arts and school teaching who want to document and publish their classroom experience.

A nominal application fee of ₹100 is charged on shortlisting, to confirm your commitment.

Practitioner-researchers with published EdTech work who volunteer to guide learners through the full research process.

PRISm began in 2023 as DETR, the Workshop on Documenting EdTech Research. Every edition has run with CET, IIT Bombay.
