Committee structure and functions
Committees carry out the strategic goals of EdTech Society. They work closely with the Executive Committee, report back on their progress and recommend future action.
How a new committee is formed
The committees needed, and what they do, depend on the needs of the Society. To form a new one, a document explaining why it is needed is presented to the Executive Committee at a monthly meeting. The Executive Committee discusses it and votes; a majority vote is needed to approve it.
How every committee works
- Each committee is given at least two goals.
- One member of the Executive Committee is part of each committee.
- That Executive Committee member identifies the chair and at least three other members from the current active membership.
- The Executive Committee approves the chair and the members.
- The chair and members serve for two years. The committee year runs from April to March.
- Once a year, each chair submits an annual report and a plan for the following year to the Executive Committee.
- Each committee’s report is included in the Society’s annual report, “Looking Back and Looking Forward”.
- The chair presents the highlights of the report on Annual Day, 27 April.
- A member can serve on only one committee, as a member or as chair.
- Each committee receives an annual budget to achieve its goals.
Who can chair a committee
- A member of EdTech Society in good standing.
- Holds a leadership position in an institution, such as HOD, Dean, Vice Chancellor, CEO, COO, CFO or Director.
- Prior experience in committee leadership is recommended.
- Prior experience in policy think tanks is desirable.
- Recommended by a member of the Executive Committee.
