Brief Description: Participants will learn about game-based learning (GBL) and gamification, differences between GBL and gamification, what are game mechanics and how they can be used as teaching tactics, and how to implement GBL and gamification in a course.

Brief Bio: Shamila Janakiraman is an Assistant Professor in Learning Design & Technology (LTEC) at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, USA. She teaches graduate level courses in LTEC and her research interests are in emerging technologies, attitude change instruction, online teaching and learning, and competency-based education. Shamila is keen on exploring the use of emerging technologies like Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and game-based learning in facilitating attitude change regarding learning different subjects, and attitudinal and behavioral learning regarding environmental sustainability and other socio-scientific topics.
